Where We Fish

Central Texas offers stellar wade fishing opportunities, from hidden creeks to wide, deep rivers. I focus on the two I think provide the best bank experience: The San Gabriel and the Pedernales.

San Gabriel River

The San Gabriel is a Brazos tributary that's formed from two forks that converge in Georgetown, flowing out of Burnet County. It's a beautiful place to fish, offering a wide variety of features over it's 120 miles. You can go from high mud walls and dense vegetation to open water with boulders on shallow flats in the same short stretch. The Gabe has just about everything you want to catch in Texas, and is home to trophy smallmouth buffalo and common carp.

Pedernales River

The Pedernales River is a tributary of the Colorado, springing up west of Austin and running a little over 100 miles to where the two meet. It's a beautiful, but rugged, river that captures the spirit of the Hill Country. Deep cut limestone bottoms and stony banks provide excellent sight-fishing opportunities for carp and buffalo. It makes for some of our longest and hardest wades, but it's well worth it.
